Happy Friday!
Here are 8 ways to wear a pencil skirt. There are so many more, but wanted to show you most of the ways I wear my red pencil skirt to work. Again, I love classic pieces like a pencil skirt, because they can go with you from season to season. I will do another round of my red pencil skirt in the fall and winter. This classic silouette works most seasons (at least here in Houston) because a great pair of tights is all you will need with cooler temps.
And like most bloggers, photography evolves as you get better with time and practice. So excuse, the lighting in some of these pictures!

What is your favorite "classic piece"?

Cooking Style: Shrimp cocktail

B (the hubs) is (almost) famous for his shrimp cocktail. I decided I would give it a go. I must say it came out pretty good! He did "coach" me through it, and it once seemed impossible, but now, it's definetely doable.

Here are the ingredients you will need:
1 small yellow onion
1 small tomato (I used cherry because that is all we had)
1 c of cilantro
a tiny bit of jalapeno
3 lemons
1 small jar of cocktail sauce
1 bag of cooked, deveined and tail off shrimp
1 avocado
a tad of Tabasco sauce
salt and pepper to taste

Mix the first 4 indredients in a food processor. Pour the cocktail sauce in a bowl. Add a bit of water, so the sauce it's not too thick. Add the ingredients from food processor into bowl, squeeze lemons into bowl, add the shrimp (already thawed out), tabasco sauce and add the avocado. Add salt and pepper to taste.
It taste much better cold, so I put it in the freezer for about 20 minutes.
Serve with tortilla chips or crackers.

Enjoy this great and low fat dish!

Weekend Style: Mint and sparkles

Top: Inc via Macy's (old)* Jeans: Asos $40 (on sale now) * Shoes: Mossimo via Target $10.48 * Bag: Thrifted $5 * Jewelry: Forever 21

I wore this out last weekend when B and I went out dancing with my sister and her husband. My love for mint will continue well into fall, and I'm constantly on the look out for more mint. This is the first time to order from Asos. As far as jeans go, I am the same size at Asos as here. I decided to pair it with this sparkly shirt to make it a fun outfit. The shoes are definetely high, but surprisingly comfortable. I made it through a night of dancing and are well broken into. I think they passed the test! I wished we would have parked a lot closer, because at that point, the shoes did come off.
What do you wear for a night out of fun?

Life Style: And the party continues

This is what we do before guests come over. Jayden plays with my Staples box, as he loves putting his toys in boxes!

I think he was done at this point!

Even Princess is wondering why I am paying so much attention to her. She stays still longer than Jayden!

Everyone tries to get away from me. Lol Here is my nephew running with a power rangers mask on.

Yummy Crave cupcakes

The birthday boy's cupcake

We had our families come over for dinner to celebrate B's real birthday last night. He got two birthday parties this year! We had Crave cupcakes for dessert, and they were delicious. Absolutely my favorite here in Houston and we have quite a few cupcake stores. B's favorite is Red Velvet. I'm still trying to figure out my favorite: Hummingbird and key lime are at the top.
I also took a few (more like 150) pictures, as I am on the hunt for a new lens. I use my 50mm a lot (about 95% of the time). Don't know if I should invest in an 85 mm or a 35 mm lens.
What do you think? What lenses do you own?

Casual Style: Statement Necklace

Top: Marshall's $17 (similar) * Dress worn as a skirt: Marshall's $20 (similar) * Necklace: S&W Trading $11 (similar) * Shoes: Aldo (old)(similar) * Bag: Nine West via Ross (old)(similar)

Happy Wednesday!
One way to use the many dresses in your closet is to turn them into a skirt. That is exactly what I did with this white dress. I love the casual yet stylish way the chambray shirt looks with my new "skirt". This look will also work with the chambray shirt left opened and with a belt and boots for the fall.
And yes, the clip on my bag is driving me insane. The photographer in me noticed it right away, but B is doing the best he can. So I used them. : )
Are you wearing dresses as skirts?

Happy Tuesday!
Here is another pencil skirt look, but I kept it a little more casual. Stripes are so big for fall, and I am glad, because I can not get enough of them either! This is a great casual top that will work with jeans as well.
What are you wearing stripes with?

Life Style: B's Golf Birthday Party

We celebrated B's birthday (the hubs) on Saturday night. We wanted to make it a surprise, but we could not keep it from him! Needless to say, we had a great night hanging out with family and friends. Even the kids had a great time dancing the night away. A great day for a great man! I can't believe we were together when we celebrated his 21st birthday, and now he will officially turn 33 tomorrow. Can not imagine spending my life with anyone else. I'm so glad God placed him in my life when he did. And we also celebrated our 9th Wedding Anniversary earlier this month. So, August is a special month in our home, even though it means summer is coming to an end. We are looking forward to fall (and cooler weather!)

Work Style: Polka dots

Top: Tj Maxx $13 (last seen here)(similar in black) * Skirt: Forever 21 $17.40 (recent)(similar) * Shoes: Ralph Lauren via Marshall's (old) * Black bag and belt: Mossimo via Target * Clutch: Thrifted and DIY (here)

Happy Monday!
I am glad that the polka dots trend will still be around for a while. I can not get enought of them, and so I decided to pair them together. Definetely a feminine look but can be toughened up with a blazer or even red pumps.
Would you wear head to toe polka dots?

Weekend Style: Pink jeans and a giveaway

Top: Loft (Spring 2012) * Jeans: U51 via Ross (Spring 2012)(similar) * Shoes: Aldo (old)(similar) * Bag: Rebecca Minkoff * Earrings & Necklace: H&M * Bracelets: Macy's, gifted * Sunglasses: c/o Firmoo

Happy Saturday!
I recently partnered with Firmoo and received these great pair of sunglasses. You can each have a chance to get a pair as well. Head on over to their website, here. All new customers get their first pair of fashion or prescription glasses free.
The quality of these sunglasses is great. They come with different case holders and I am overall very satisfied with them.
I wanted to wear a fun outfit to a friend's graduation/birthday dinner, and decided on my hot pink jeans. To keep the look fun, but a little dressy, I added a flowy top. I like wearing my skinny jeans with heels to add more height to my (5'1) frame.

Happy Friday!
Here is this week's Closet Remix.
I have said button-down shirts are a great staple to any wardrobe. I am looking forward to styling this great shirt in so many different ways, casual and work looks!
And of course this kelly green pencil skirt has become one of my favorite skirts! I have seen this brand (Dalia Collection) at Tj Maxx and Marshall's a lot lately. Their skirts are all very cute!

Cooking Style: Skinny Lasagna Rolls

I made this last night for dinner, and actually got the inspiration from Skinny Taste, but changed up the recipe a bit. Instead of spinach, I added turkey meat, and used cottage cheese instead of ricotta. My son also loved it, so it was kid-friendly as well! I would consider this pretty simple to make, and just 40 minutes of baking in the oven.
